Finally, we’re just coming out and saying it: The Republicans have been trying to obstruct the government, wreck the economy and bring down President Obama – all at the expense of unemployed Americans.
This, for pure political considerations – if they can grind the government to a halt, they’re betting that the American people will pin the blame on Obama and the Democrats. Bipartisan measures that Republicans have historically supported are suddenly off the table – the Republicans refuse to consider them. House Republicans are actually condemning tax cuts for the middle class! Condemning infrastructure spending.when our bridges, schools and roads are falling apart! But the idea of taxing millionaires is apparently killing the sacred cow – it’s a nonstarter for them. And the House Majority Leader isn’t just bragging about refusing to consider these ideas, the Senate Minority Leader has said that his one, singular goal is to defeat President Obama, and has flouted the great traditions of the Senate in doing so. That’s some kind of a Contract with America.
Wake up, America! The Republicans ran up three trillion dollars in deficits from 2000-2008, deregulated whole swaths of the financial sector, and now they’re trying to shut down every one of President Obama’s attempts to stop this national crisis from becoming the second Great Depression. They have been ever since they instituted a permanent filibuster in the Senate in 2008, they have been since 2010, when they started taking the American economy hostage and shutting down the government at every chance they got, and they’re doing it right now. They won’t even allow Senators to debate President Obama’s American Jobs Act.
They don’t care about the unemployed. They don’t care about the middle class. They don’t care about the poor, the uninsured, people without civil rights, people without access to education, or economic mobility or.well, to coin a phrase: They don’t give a damn about the 99%. All they want is to get Obama and the Democrats out of the way so they can continue our nation’s steady slide toward plutarchy, and let the Second Gilded Age become the new, permanent nightmare for America’s rapidly disappearing middle class.
Don’t let them get away with it! Here’s a call to all the Occupiers out there on the streets of American cities: The Democrats may have been complicit in the corruption and greed that dominate the highest sectors of our society. For that, we’re sorry. We’re trying to make it right, with health care reform, financial reform, the American Jobs Act and the repeal of Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell. We’re working on a stronger, loving America. But you know that the Republicans must be stopped at all costs. Let’s join forces and let the Republicans know that we won’t stand for their cynical sabotage of our nation any more.

Be real! Obama has run up more debt and deficit spending in less than 3 years than all other presidents for over 200 years. You are correct that our common goal is to get Obama out of office! Period. This country cannot afford four more minutes of his destroy America agenda let alone four more years!
I am speechless, really. Do you want Obama to be a socialist dictator? The Republicans have done basically nil to oppose Obama in reality. He is operating way out of bounds of The Constitution, whether it be the EPA, setting up Obamcare, nationalizing GM (see Art. I: Sec 8 on uniform bankruptcies) – you can’t seriously be an advocate of totalitarianism! That would be just sick!
Rogue, I want to have a civil debate on policy with you, but I don’t know how: Totaliaranism? Socialist dictator? Obama’s just a Democrat. We are Democrats. Americans, patriots, hard workers, devoted husbands and wives and fathers and mothers and people struggling along this same road of American life that everyone else is. We’re your brothers and sisters – and we’re one half of this country, with a legitimate policy disagreement with American conservatism. We’re not Nazis or Muslims or Communists or any kind of boogeymen, we’re just a little to left of Republicans. In the global political spectrum, we would be considered very conservative.
As for the deficit, Regina, the total of Obama’s new policies as of July 2011 is 1.44 trillion dollars. The total of Bush’s eight years was 5.07 trillion dollars. So Bush ran up an average of 625 billion dollars in deficits per year (including the election year giveaway of Medicare Part D, which was half a trillion dollars unpaid for) and Obama has run up an average of 440 billion dollars a year. But that doesn’t take into account the 1.2 trillion dollars that either the supercommittee will cut, or automatically triggered cuts will reduce from the deficit. So Obama’s really at about .24 billion – not trillion – dollars by next year.
Democrats are the ones calling Republicans Nazis, not the other way around. And when you start off with apologetics and acting as if we are all conceited and think we are better than you, it doesn’t seem very “civil”. As if we sit around calling everyone communists and muslims, when you started off by pushing a Democratic stereotype about Republicans, I immediately lost all respect for you or your pinon. And your claim at the end is absurd, their has been absolutely no consideration from the Obama administration of any spending cuts whatsoever. And I would also like to point out that your articles are littered with things you present as facts but have no actual proof for. If you want to have a “civil debate” stop looking at us as conceited rich people who think everyone who isn’t with them is communist and Muslim, and start considering the fact that we have different opinions than you because we have facts, logic, and history, not because of some vendetta.
Jackson, good point. I don’t think all Republicans are conceited, or rich; I usually disdain over-generalizations and I did it in my article. I meant the Republican leadership and many of the Republicans in Congress. I don’t mean to be that guy that says “I have lots of Republican friends” but I do come from a heavily conservative, Catholic family and, as a military man, have had the occasion of respecting, debating and being very close to conservative people most of my life.
As for the Communist and Muslim charges, those are insults regularly leveled at Obama. I don’t tolerate liberal thought that called Bush “Hitler” and produced 9/11 “truthers” and all of the other fringe-element stuff during that administration, and I don’t tolerate conservative thought that calls Obama “the Kenyan” and produced “birthers” and all of the other fringe-element stuff during this administration. It’s incumbent on all of us to disdain partisanship and criticize not only our opponents, but our purported allies.
As for Deficit Spending, here’s my reference, to back me up: http://www.alan.com/2011/07/29/obama-vs-bush-on-the-deficit-in-one-simple-graph/
Well Obama has compiled $4.5 trillion debt in under 3 years and that is what a good socialist does but fortunately most of the country are not socialist, progressive liberals and we will not put up with this fascist behavior for very long. if Obama has nothing to hide why locked up all documents that could tell us the truth? I can tell you why. The truth will not get him elected – that is why.
